WILD FLOWERS OF NAMAQUALAND…

Welcome to the most amazing wild flower show on the planet!

It happens only once a year… maybe!

This is Namaqualand.

Thousands of different flower plant seed species lie underground, sometimes for years, awaiting germination. It only happens when the winter rain comes.

This is a semi-desert wilderness – and THAT is what makes this part of Namaqualand so special.

During the spring months in the Northern Cape province of South Africa, from as early as August every year, Namaqualand turns into the biggest flowers show on the planet.

It is true, when it rains in the winter months, even a little bit, maybe only a 100mm or more, this desert turns itself into a natural wonder few people has ever seen before.

Carpets of flowers stretched as far as the eyes could see.

When the flowers come, word spread quickly – travel plans are made fast because this incredible flower show only last for a few weeks.

Those that can travel to experience this natural transformation first hand do so immediately – camera in hand.

Those that arrive in time can see the miles and miles of flowers – and they usually stare at this miracle until their eyes hurt.
