Namaqualand Treasure Hunt
Dear Friend, Nature and Outdoor Enthusiast,
We are thrilled to introduce you to the Namaqualand Treasure Hunt, a captivating adventure aimed at promoting nature conservation in Namaqualand.
If you have a passion for exploring and preserving the wonders of nature, this treasure hunt is perfect for you!
To embark on this exciting journey, and to find that real buried treasure, simply visit our dedicated website for this project at:
www.go-get-it.org and join the hunt.
It’s an armchair treasure hunt, meaning anyone from anywhere in the world can participate in the quest to find the treasure. The first individual or team to successfully unearth the treasure chest will be its proud owner(s).
To begin, you need to register online and receive a special hunter’s ID number. Additionally, you must obtain the special Treasure Map & Game Board package, which is available either online or from selected outlets.
This package includes the following items:
• The Treasure Map & Game Board (450mmx450mm board)
• The first of 50+ special “Treasure Hunters Riddle Cards”
• The Rules and an information pack on how to find the treasure
• A unique Hunter’s ID Card
It is cheaper to buy the digital package online and do all the printing yourself, however, a limited number of hard copies is available on the site.
This treasure hunt will run from September 2023 [Leg 1 – soft launch] to late in 2024 – or early in 2025 – maybe longer: Depending on whether the treasure chest is found or not. Tickers (Hunter ID Cards) can be obtained now at:
The treasure hunt will official be announced and soft lunched during the weekend of 1-3 September 2023 at the Namaqualand Flower Festival near Vanrhynsdorp in Namaqualand Knersvlakte.
As secondary launch and feedback session will be held later in 2024.
The treasure awaits, hidden behind more than 50 intriguing riddles that need to be solved.
Each solved riddle rewards the hunter with two special treasure hunt cards and a unique Namaqualand Flower Card:
• The first card provides the solution and explanation to the previous riddle.
• The second card presents the next riddle, leading the way to the treasure.
• The unique Nature Conservation Flower card adds to the adventure.
Every card contains tiny clues, and when pieced together, they reveal the exact location on the map where the treasure is buried. It’s like assembling a puzzle, and the final piece unveils the secret.
The riddles become progressively more challenging as the hunt progresses, but fear not, for all the riddles revolve around the fascinating history and stories of Namaqualand and its people.
Over a period of approximately 6 to 12 months, clues will be released in different batches on pre-determined dates.
Participants will not be able to find the treasure until most of the clue is released. This extended duration of the hunt allows us to achieve maximum exposure and spread our message of nature conservation in Namaqualand.
However, the most important reason for this extended hunt period is to ensuring fairness and equal opportunities for everyone involved.
We know people are busy and we want to make sure that everyone gets time to search can find this treasure chest.
The first leg of the hunt covers the history from the late 13th century until 1799, while the second leg delves into the period from 1801 to the early 21st century.
The final leg will focus on the Nature Conservation Challenges of the future and provide the last few clues that will lead the hunters to the treasure chest.
To provide a visual glimpse of what to expect, we’ve included some images of the map, game board, and examples of the treasure hunt cards below and on our website.
During the hunt all the cards are digitally provided in downloadable PDF format, allowing you to print them if you wish, although printing is not a necessity.
